Speedify vs Peplink: software vs hardware bonding for IRL

The two ways to bond connections for a stable IRL stream: cheap software, or pricier hardware. Which you actually need.

Your encoder tops out at 1080p60. A higher-end encoder would go further.

Bonding combines two or more connections into one resilient stream so a single dead zone does not drop you. There are two routes: software bonding (Speedify) and hardware bonding (Peplink with SpeedFusion).

Speedify (software)
Pros
  • Cheap, a few dollars a month
  • Runs on a phone, a Pi, or a laptop
  • No extra hardware to carry
Cons
  • Adds a little latency and CPU load
  • Tied to a subscription
  • Less rock-solid than dedicated hardware
Peplink + SpeedFusion (hardware)
Pros
  • The most reliable bonding you can buy
  • Dual-SIM router built for it
  • Cloud failover
Cons
  • Hardware cost plus a subscription
  • Heavier and more to set up
  • Overkill for most solo streamers
Speedify

Start here. Software bonding covers most IRL streamers for the price of a coffee a month.

Peplink + SpeedFusion

Step up to this when reliability in a packed crowd is worth real money.

Either way you need two actual connections to bond. Bonding one weak hotspot does nothing.

The Reddit take: searching Speedify vs Peplink on Reddit? The r/streaming, r/Twitch, and r/IRLstreaming communities largely land on the same gear, and this build reflects that consensus, not just our opinion.
