What StreamPartPicker is
Why it exists
Buying streaming gear goes wrong in a specific way. Someone spends real money on a good camera, plugs it in, and the stream looks no better, because the thing limiting them was never the camera. It was the bitrate their platform accepts, or the upload their phone plan sustains, or the capture card nobody told them they needed. The parts are all reviewed individually and almost nothing tells you how they behave together.
That is the gap this fills. Every build here is scored by the same engine, which takes your encoder ceiling, your realistic uplink, your codec, and your platform cap, and returns the highest resolution and framerate the build holds without dropping to a BRB screen. It is the streaming equivalent of a wattage estimate, and it is the only reason this site has a right to exist.
The part nobody else covers
Desk streaming is well served. IRL streaming, meaning going live from a phone or a backpack over cellular, is barely served at all, and it is where the expensive mistakes live: bonding confused with failover, batteries sized in the wrong unit, encoders bought without a relay to send to. Roughly half of what is here exists because someone asked one of those questions and found no straight answer.
How it is funded
Affiliate commission, disclosed on every page that carries a buy link. When you buy through one, the retailer pays us a percentage and you pay the same price. Nobody pays to be recommended, nobody pays to be removed, and no brand sees a guide before it publishes. The long version, including what we would refuse, is in the affiliate disclosure.
What it will not do
- Promise a bitrate. Mobile uplink varies by street corner, so every verdict here is a planning budget, stated conservatively, not a guarantee.
- Pretend a price is live. Prices are curated estimates plus tracked history, and the retailer's page is always the truth.
- Turn into a battlestation site. Monitors, desks, chairs, and keyboards are PCPartPicker's job and covering them would dilute the part we are good at.
- Publish a streamer's setup as confirmed when it is not. Sourcing level is labelled on the page, and aggregator sites are not treated as sources. See the editorial policy.
