X is the only major platform that put its stream key behind a paywall: livestreaming with external software requires X Premium. In July 2026 X replaced the old Media Studio Producer with Live Studio inside Creator Studio, a real attempt at courting streamers, with scheduling, private test broadcasts, and subscriber-only chat.

  • Live Studio in Creator Studio (rolling out by region through 2026), or the legacy Media Studio flow
  • OBS or any RTMP encoder, pointed at the URL and key X gives you

The specs, honestly

X accepts up to roughly 9,000 kbps of video, which sounds generous until you see the resolution ceiling: 1080p at 30 fps, or 720p if you want 60. For a talk-format stream, which is what X’s feed actually rewards, 1080p30 with clean audio is exactly right. Do not buy gear chasing 1080p60 here; the platform will not show it.
