How to stream on Facebook Live in 2026 (and what Meta quietly changed)
By Elan Harpaz · Published 2026-08-10
Facebook Live still works and still reaches an enormous audience, but the Gaming app is dead and your VODs now self-destruct in 30 days. The 2026 reality.
1080p30 is your platform's practical ceiling. YouTube or Kick allow higher than Twitch standard.

Facebook Live is the platform your audience’s parents are on, which for a lot of niches, live selling, local events, talk formats, is exactly the point. It still works fine with OBS in 2026. But Meta has been quietly walking away from streaming, and you should know what changed before you invest.
Going live with OBS
- Open Live Producer at facebook.com/live/producer from your profile or Page
- Copy the RTMPS server URL and stream key into OBS
- Facebook recommends about 4,000 kbps at 1080p, up to 60 fps
- Broadcasts can run up to 8 hours
That 4,000 kbps recommendation is the lowest of any major platform, and it shapes the gear math: Facebook-first streamers gain nothing from a 4K camera pipeline. A sharp 1080p source, good light, and clean audio hit the ceiling of what viewers receive.

Compressed video forgives; compressed audio does not. Feed it a clean source.
