Power station or power bank for IRL streaming: when the backpack needs a real battery
By Elan Harpaz · Published 2026-10-13
A 20,000 mAh bank runs a phone stream for hours. A mirrorless, encoder, modem and light together need a 250 W bank or a small power station. The Anker Prime, SOLIX C300 and EcoFlow River 3 compared with runtime math.
Your encoder tops out at 1080p60. A higher-end encoder would go further.

You need a power station instead of a power bank for IRL streaming when the rig draws more than about 30 W continuously or has to run for more than four hours, which is where a mirrorless camera, a belaBOX encoder, a 5G modem and a light land together. Up to that point the Anker Prime 27,650 mAh at 250 W is the biggest battery airlines still allow in a carry-on and it runs a phone-and-gimbal build all day. Past it, the Anker SOLIX C300 DC gives you 288 Wh in a bag-friendly shape, and the EcoFlow River 3 adds an AC outlet for the day something in the rig only came with a wall charger.
Add up the watts before buying anything
Every part page on this site with an IRL power figure feeds the runtime estimate in the configurator, and the arithmetic is simple: watt-hours of battery, times about 0.85 for conversion loss, divided by the watts the bag draws. A phone streaming at 6 W plus a gimbal at 2 W lasts around nine hours on a 74 Wh bank. A Sony a7 IV at 8 W, an Orange Pi encoder at 8 W, a Nighthawk at 10 W and a light at 10 W is 36 W, and that same bank is done in under two hours.

The most power you can carry onto a plane. 250 W means it charges a laptop-class encoder and a camera at the same time without slowing either.

No AC inverter, which is why it is smaller and lighter than other 288 Wh stations. Pure USB-C output at up to 140 W per port is exactly what a modern rig wants.

The one with a wall socket. Buy it if a camera or light in your bag only charges from its own brick.

A 140 W bank with a screen that shows live draw in watts, which is the cheapest way to measure what your bag actually uses.

A 12 V barrel output for encoders and modems that want it, at a price that lets you carry two.
Two batteries beat one big one
A rig fed by two 99 Wh banks can swap one out at a coffee shop while the other runs the stream, and both are carry-on legal. One 300 Wh station has to come home to charge and cannot fly in the cabin. Unless the bag genuinely draws over 40 W, two Primes are the better purchase.
Frequently asked
How big a power bank do I need for IRL streaming?
A phone build draws under 10 W and a 20,000 mAh (74 Wh) bank runs it most of a day. A backpack with a mirrorless, an encoder, a modem and a light draws 30 to 40 W and needs a 250 Wh station or two 99 Wh banks swapped in turn.
Can I fly with a power station?
Up to 100 Wh is allowed in carry-on without asking. 100 to 160 Wh usually needs airline approval. Anything larger, including most power stations, cannot go in the cabin.
Is the Anker Prime enough for a belaBOX backpack?
For a pocket camera and a belaBOX, yes, for two to three hours. Add a mirrorless and a light and you want the SOLIX C300 or a second Prime.
